Electric Bicycle Cruise Control: Usage Specifications & Safety Guide

1. Purpose
The cruise control function is designed to maintain a constant speed without the need for the rider to hold the throttle. Its primary purpose is to reduce rider fatigue on suitable, long, and open routes. It is a convenience feature, not a substitute for attentive riding.

2. Pre-Conditions for Activation
Cruise control may only be activated when ALL of the following conditions are met:

  • The bicycle is on a smooth, paved, dry, and level surface.
  • Visibility is clear, and weather conditions are good (no rain, fog, ice, or strong winds).
  • The path is straight with no upcoming curves, intersections, or roundabouts.
  • Traffic is light, and the area is free of pedestrians, obstacles, or other potential hazards.
  • The bicycle has reached a stable, desired speed typically above a minimum threshold (e.g., 15 km/h or 10 mph, refer to your specific model's manual).

3. Strict Prohibitions
NEVER activate or use cruise control in the following situations:

  • In heavy, slow-moving, or urban traffic.
  • On downhill slopes. The bicycle will continue to accelerate, creating an extreme risk of loss of control.
  • On uphill slopes, curves, or winding paths.
  • On slippery, uneven, or unstable surfaces: including gravel, sand, mud, wet roads, metal grates, or painted road markings.
  • In low-visibility conditions or adverse weather.
  • When riding in close proximity to other cyclists, vehicles, or pedestrians.

4. Activation and Deactivation Procedure

  • Activation:Manually accelerate to your desired constant speed using the throttle. While maintaining that speed, press and hold the cruise control button (typically for 2-3 seconds) until a cruise control indicator light on your display confirms activation. You may now release the throttle.
  • Deactivation:
Cruise control will disengage IMMEDIATELY upon any of the following actions:Squeezing either the front or rear brake lever (this is the primary and recommended method).Applying the brakes.Pedaling (on models where this function is enabled).Pressing the cruise control button again to cancel.

5. Rider Responsibilities & Best Practices

  • Constant Vigilance: You are always in control of the bicycle. Even with cruise control active, you must remain fully alert, keep your eyes on the road, and be prepared to take immediate action.
  • Hands on Handlebars: Always keep both hands on the handlebars for maximum control.
  • Fingers on Brakes: Keep your fingers covering the brake levers, ready to disengage cruise control and brake at a moment's notice.
  • Know Your System: Familiarize yourself with the specific operation and feel of your bicycle's cruise control in a safe, open area before using it in real-world conditions.
  • Prioritize Safety: If there is any doubt about the safety of the situation, deactivate cruise control immediately.

Warning: Failure to adhere to these specifications may result in loss of control, serious injury, or death. The cruise control feature is a riding aid and does not absolve the rider of responsibility for safe operation. The manufacturer is not liable for damages or incidents resulting from the misuse of this function.
